Travis Friend Participates in Panel Discussion About Thriving in the Practice of Law
July 16, 2026
Yesterday evening, Partner Travis Friend participated in a panel discussion at the Allen County Bar Association called "Thriving in the Law: Why a Career in Law in Rewarding and Meaningful". Travis has practiced law in Indiana since 1990, representing individuals and businesses in a variety of areas, most notably criminal defense and civil litigation.
When asked: can work-life balance exist for an associate attorney in the legal field, Travis answered "absolutely, yes".
"It’s about effective time-management. Thriving lawyers set boundaries and learn how best to manage their time. The key is to figure out how you best manage your time. It will look different for each of us. The thriving lawyers I know also give back to their communities. Some sit on non-profit boards, others coach youth soccer. They also take breaks, weekends, and go on vacations. Yes, there will be times when it necessary to work extra hours to support clients and emergencies will happen, but nothing will burn you out faster than going full speed on end without giving your mind a break. Stop reading emails at night. Go enjoy your families. The best way to recharge is to give your mind a break."
HallerColvin agrees that a rewarding legal career is not defined solely by hours worked, but by finding purpose in the profession while maintaining the balance necessary to sustain it. Success in the law and a fulfilling personal life are not mutually exclusive—they are both essential to a long and meaningful career.
By sharing his perspective and more than three decades of experience, Travis helped reinforce the panel's central theme: that a career in law can be both professionally rewarding and personally fulfilling when approached with intention, balance, and a commitment to serving others.
